L'eau by Jeanne Cherhal
There was a lot happening in the Nouvelle Scène in 2006. Camille had just blown up musical boundaries with "Le fil", and Jeanne Cherhal followed suit with this extraordinary album. "L'eau" is all about water, about liquids, about dissolving ("Je suis liquide"), about tears ("Rondes larmes"), about the sweat in the summer heat ("Canicule") and about plunging in ("Petit soupe"). Fantastic songs with very imaginative arrangements, an open production (Albin de la Simone) and a powerful, expressive voice.
