Brian Lopez — along with Marianne Dissard, Andrew Collberg and Sergio Mendoza — comes from Tucson (Arizona, USA), the city to which we have even dedicated a compilation of its own. Brian Lopez represents a younger generation following Calexico and Giant Sand, which has had a great influence on the sound of the Sonora Desert. If you have ever heard one of his albums, "Ultra" for example, you certainly haven’t forgotten his unmistakable, crystal clear, beautiful voice. Cut out for a great solo career. But all of this still didn’t satisfy Lopez. Apart from his solo career he works on other side projects: with his friend Gabriel Sullivan he founded the indie-cumbia fusion project Xixa. He has also replaced Salvador Duran, considered the almost irreplaceable band member of Orkesta Mendoza, since their last album release.
